the nano project
week 3 presentation
If objects and surfaces didn't age naturally, how would we design an aging surface? This is a video of a presentation of our explorations in week 3 around the concept of objects aging artificially over a 100 year period and through varied usage.
In week four we looked at how dust could become a decorative element to the domestic environment, as opposed to an annoyance. Dust is created by a number of sources, including the human body. Our object performs archeology of the present as it collects and compress the history of the home through dust over a long period of time. We are not yet sure exactly how this object would work, but initially assume it would use static electricity and nano-material to act as a filter. In the same way that a trees trunk develops rings as it grows, this dust ball would contain growth rings documenting the evolution of your home.

This was a group project I did together with Maria Joudina and Nicolas Myers. The exploration evolved over four weeks, as we considered potential design outcomes of the nano future.
